Hello Reader, welcome to my latest newsletter. Between holiday gatherings, extra work, family time, and dreary weather, it can all feel a bit much. Feeling your best will help you navigate the season. I have some tips! |
1. Natural Aging & Weight Loss Webinar (free!)
It's more than possible to look and feel, as I call it, "flawed but awesome" as we enter our forties, fifties, and beyond, and I created my latest webinar about this very topic.
As we make plans for the holidays, many of us start getting nervous about what to wear and how we are presenting ourselves in front of friends and families. We have to face anything we've been avoiding as we attempt to zip up that dress.
Looking and feeling vibrant, shedding the pounds, and rejuvenating your skin is possible, but first you have to believe you are worth it. And then, if you committed to making it happen naturally, you need a plan. Once you start seeing progress--which you will in time--it gets easier.
I used to go months without looking in a full-size mirror, when I had my fibroids. As long as I didn't see myself, I could sort of exist without caring. But every once in a while I'd catch a glimpse in a store mirror, or in windows on the street and feel sad. This, in turn created a downward spiral where I gained even more weight and I started isolating myself.
A huge part of weight gain is emotional--we give up as the scale starts increasing. The same thing can happen with aging, as we try and fail to race against the grey hair and wrinkles and sagging skin, so many of us just give up.
The great thing is, we can look and feel younger with just a few rituals in place.

2. My Secrets For Renewing Your Spirit
It's cold, it's grey, it's sweater weather!!
And I for one, cannot stand it. Believe it or not I actually like Massachusetts a lot but the Winter alone keeps me in San Francisco.
I have some tips on how to immediately change your day:
- Music! I like to say there is nothing a good playlist can't solve. It's an easy fix. I like to make playlists when I'm happy so they don't all end up being Morrissey and Depeche Mode. As a good gen-xer I suggest A-ha, Vanilla Ice, Livin' on a Prayer, Beastie Boys, Pet Shop Boys, and anything Bruce Springsteen.
- Call a positive friend. We all, unfortunately have downer friends but there is always the one peppy friend. That's who to call when you're feeling a bit blue.
- Jumping Jacks or anything at the jungle gym: I am not kidding. Monkey bars, slides, hop scotch, these things are fun and movement does so much to pump good energy through our bodies.
- Get offline: Shut the phone off, go to sleep early, take a long bath, read a good book, watch a fun movie (I watched Champagne Problems and it is perfectly stupid and funny).
- J'accepte la grande aventure d'être moi is a fabulous quote by Simone de Beauvoir (and was mentioned in the above silly movie). It means, "I accept the grand adventure of being me!" Just think about that for a minute...isn't it truly awesome? Life is an adventure for the making.
Want more tips or just want someone trained as a consultant and coach to help you kickstart the holidays? Let me renew your spirt with my 1:1 purpose sessions, with a very special holiday rate (limited sessions).
3. J'accepte la grande aventure d'être moi
I was so inspired by this quote, and the idea of living your life as an adventure, I wrote a small blog post about it.
4. Is Your Workout Working For You?
As a trained Exercise Scientist, I personally attend to all my startup member exercise reports. What I've noticed is that even beyond the labs, the reason most people give up on exercise plans is it simply doesn't map to what they enjoy doing! So what if strength training or HIIT is 'right" for you if you hate it? And so what if long hikes are ideal to lower your stress if you dislike the cold and it's...Boston right now.
I am in the process of re-certifying my NASM personal training credentials and offering my newsletter subscribers a special session where I'll review your current workout and optimize it, or, craft an initial plan if you are just getting started.
